📖 Genesis 48:1–22 in Pidgin English
1. Later, dem tell Joseph say, “Your papa don sick.” So Joseph carry him two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, go see Jacob.
2. When dem tell Jacob say Joseph don come, Jacob gather strength sit for bed.
3. Jacob tell Joseph, “God Almighty appear to me for Luz wey dey Canaan and bless me.
4. He tell me say, ‘I go make you plenty and give this land to your pikin dem forever.’”
5. Jacob say, “Your two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, wey you born before I come Egypt, na my own now. Dem go be like Reuben and Simeon to me.”
6. “Any other pikin wey you born after dem go still be yours, but dem go carry their own blessing inside Ephraim and Manasseh inheritance.”
7. “When I dey come from Paddan, your mama Rachel die for road for Canaan. I bury am near Bethlehem.”
Jacob Bless Joseph’s Sons
8. When Israel see Joseph sons, he ask, “Who be these?”
9. Joseph say, “Na my sons wey God give me here.”
Jacob say, “Bring dem make I bless dem.”
10. Jacob eye don weak because of old age, so he no dey see well. Joseph bring di boys come near, and Jacob kiss and hug dem.
11. Israel say, “I no believe I go see your face again, but God even let me see your children.”
12. Joseph carry di boys from Jacob lap and bow down with face touch ground.
13. He bring Ephraim (di younger one) with him right hand go Jacob left, and Manasseh (di firstborn) with him left hand go Jacob right.
14. But Jacob cross him hands — put him right hand on Ephraim head, and left hand on Manasseh head — even though Manasseh be firstborn.
15. Jacob bless Joseph and say:
“May the God wey my papa Abraham and Isaac serve,
the God wey take care of me from birth till now,
16. the angel wey save me from danger,
bless these boys.
Make my name and the name of my papa continue for their life.
Make dem plenty for this earth.”
17. When Joseph see say Jacob put right hand on Ephraim head, he vex. He try move Jacob hand to Manasseh head.
18. Joseph say, “Papa, no be so! Manasseh be firstborn. Put your right hand for him head.”
19. But Jacob refuse. He say, “I know my pikin, I know. Manasseh go great, but Ephraim go greater and him children go become many nations.”
20. So Jacob bless dem that day, say,
“Israel go take your name bless people:
‘May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh.’”
He put Ephraim before Manasseh.
Jacob Give Joseph Extra Portion
21. Then Israel tell Joseph, “I dey die, but God go be with una and bring una back to di land of your papa dem.”
22. “I give you one portion pass your brothers — di land I collect from Amorites with sword and bow.”
