📖 Genesis 32:1–32 in Pidgin English
1. As Jacob dey continue him journey, angels of God meet am.
2. When he see dem, he say, “Na God camp be this,” and he name the place Mahanaim.
3. Jacob send messengers go meet Esau wey dey stay for Edom land.
4. He tell dem, “Tell Esau say, ‘Your servant Jacob don stay with Laban till now.
5. I get cow, donkey, sheep, servant, and maid. I dey send this message to find favour for your eyes.’”
6. The messengers return say, “We see your brother Esau. He dey come meet you with 400 men.”
7. Jacob fear scatter. E divide people, sheep, and all he get into two groups.
8. He say, “If Esau attack one group, the other one fit escape.”
9. Then Jacob pray say, “O God of my papa Abraham and Isaac, you tell me make I come back and say you go bless me.
10. I no deserve your mercy and truth. I cross Jordan with only stick, now I get two camps.”
11. “Abeg save me from Esau hand. I dey fear say he go kill me and my children.”
12. “But you promise say you go bless me and make my pikin plenty like sand wey nobody fit count.”
13. That night, Jacob stay there and prepare gift for Esau:
14. 200 female goats, 20 male goats, 200 sheep, 20 rams,
15. 30 female camels with their pikin, 40 cows, 10 bulls, 20 female donkeys, and 10 male donkeys.
16. He divide dem into groups with servants and say, “Go in front. Put space between each group.”
17. He tell di first servant, “When Esau ask you, ‘Who you be?’ Tell am, ‘Na your servant Jacob gift for you. He dey come behind.’”
18. He tell all of them same thing—“Say na gift from Jacob to get Esau favour.”
20. He say, “Maybe if I send gift ahead, he go calm down before I meet am.”
21. So the gifts go ahead while Jacob sleep that night in the camp.
22. But during the night, Jacob wake up, carry him two wives, two maids, and 11 children cross Jabbok River.
23. He send all of them and everything he get cross the stream.
24. Jacob remain alone. Then one man come and wrestle with am till daybreak.
25. When the man see say he no fit win Jacob, he touch Jacob hip and dislocate am.
26. The man say, “Leave me, day don break.” Jacob say, “I no go leave you unless you bless me.”
27. The man ask, “Wetyn be your name?” He say, “Jacob.”
28. The man say, “From today, your name no be Jacob again. Your name go be Israel, because you fight with God and man and win.”
29. Jacob ask, “Wetin be your name?” But the man say, “Why you dey ask?” Then he bless Jacob there.
30. Jacob name the place Peniel, say, “I don see God face to face and I still dey alive.”
31. As sun rise and Jacob waka from Peniel, he dey limp because of him hip.
32. Till today, Israel people no dey chop that part of the thigh joint because na there the man touch Jacob hip.
