📖 Genesis 31:1–55 in Pidgin English
1. Jacob hear say Laban sons dey complain, “Jacob don carry everything wey belong to papa!”
2. Jacob observe say Laban face no friendly again.
3. Then God tell Jacob, “Go back to your papa land. I go dey with you.”
4. Jacob call Rachel and Leah for bush where him animals dey.
5. He say, “I see say your papa face don change, but God dey with me.”
6. “Una know say I don serve your papa with all my power.”
7. “But your papa don cheat me many times. Still, God no gree am do me bad.”
8. “Anytime him say, ‘na spotted goat be your reward,’ na only spotted dem go born. If he say ‘na striped,’ na striped go full ground.”
9. “God don collect your papa animals give me.”
10. “During breeding season, I dream see goat and sheep dey mate with spots and stripes.”
11. “Angel of God appear tell me, ‘Jacob!’ I say, ‘I dey here.’”
12. Angel say, ‘I see all the things Laban dey do. I be the God of Bethel wey you pour oil for altar.’”
13. “Now pack your things and go back your papa house.”
14. Rachel and Leah answer, “We no get inheritance again for our papa house.”
15. “He don use us like strangers and sell us. All the wealth na from us. So do wetin God tell you.”
17. So Jacob pack everything—wives, children, animals—and start journey.
19. Rachel steal her papa idol before dem go.
20. Jacob no tell Laban say dem dey go. He sneak run away.
21. He cross Euphrates River and head for Gilead mountain.
22. Three days later, Laban hear say Jacob don run.
23. He gather him people and pursue Jacob for seven days, reach am for Gilead.
24. That night God appear to Laban for dream say, “No talk anything good or bad to Jacob.”
25. Laban meet Jacob, set camp near am.
26. He say, “Why you run like thief, carry my daughters like prisoner?”
27. “Why you no tell me? I for do send-forth with music and dance.”
28. “You no even let me kiss my children and daughters goodbye.”
29. “I fit harm you, but God warn me last night.”
30. “You wan go your papa house, I understand. But why you thief my idol?”
31. Jacob say, “I fear say you go collect your daughters by force.”
32. “But anybody wey carry your idol, make e die. Search our things.”
33. Laban search Jacob, Leah, servants but no see anything.
34. Rachel hide the idol inside camel saddle and sit on am.
35. She tell her papa, “Sorry I no fit stand up, na my woman time.” So Laban no see the idol.
36. Jacob vex say, “Why you dey pursue me like thief?”
37. “You search all my load, you see anything wey be your own?”
38. “I don serve you 20 years—your sheep and goat no miscarry, I no chop your animal.”
39. “If wild animal kill anything, I repay you from my own.”
40. “Day and night I suffer cold, heat, and sleep no dey.”
41. “I work for you 20 years—14 years for your daughters, 6 for your flock—and you change my pay 10 times.”
42. “If no be God of Abraham and Isaac dey with me, you for send me empty. But God don see everything.”
43. Laban say, “All this na my family and property, but wetin I go do now?”
44. “Make we do covenant today, set boundary between us.”
45. Jacob take stone raise am as pillar.
46. He tell him people gather stones and build heap. Dem chop there.
47. Laban call the place Jegar-Sahadutha (Aramaic), Jacob call am Galeed (Hebrew)—both mean “witness heap.”
48. Laban say, “This heap go witness between us today.”
49. He also call the place Mizpah, say, “May God watch both of us when we no dey see each other.”
50. “If you mistreat my daughters or marry more wives, even if I no dey there, God go judge you.”
51. Laban say, “See this heap and pillar, na witness say you no go cross come harm me and I no go cross come harm you.”
53. Jacob swear by fear of Isaac, him papa.
54. He sacrifice to God on the mountain, invite everybody to chop. Dem sleep there that night.
55. Early morning, Laban kiss him daughters and grandchildren, bless dem, and go back home.
