Independence; is it really a good thing, emphasise why is independence important and what the word of God says about independence.
Independence... Is it really a good thing? Being independent means various things which only exist in doing what is right for diverse people. For a toddler, independence means taking the first step without assistance and being able to freely move around without hindrance.
For a teenager, independence is the greatest form of adventure which allowed him to display his individualism and showcase his power of autonomy, for some women independence means sending underage children off to school to have a breathing space and for men, it entails being charge and having the liberty to live life on their own terms.
For the children of Israel, it simply means leaving Egypt and staying out of slavery and bondage.
Nigeria is celebrating yet another independence. If faithfulness and truth are the most sacred excellence and endowment of the human mind, what then is sustainable independence? Is it the power of doing that which is permitted by law?
According to first Peter chapter 2:16, you are to live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Daily Capsule on How to Care for Your Eyes Everyday
For the world, being independent means self-sufficiency, self-reliance, safe support, self-sustenance, and self-standing. It's all about self.
The question is, is it really good to remain independent with God? The obvious answer is No. The true essence of independence comes through a total dependence on God because God's power is perfected in your weakness.
Again, the truth in Philippians 4:19 is only received when we trust God with our problems. He is the all-sufficient God.
I urge you brethren, to only admit your weakness and remember that Jesus suffered, died, was buried, descended into hell, and rose from the dead, in order to grant eternal life to you. As you celebrate and pray for Nigeria today, don't forget that the beauty of independence lies in its value, which only exists in doing what is right. Galatians 5:1, "Standfast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage".
As you celebrate, remember to intentionally praise God that has made you witness to step into the 10th month. Raise a song of praise like Simeon's Nunc Dimittis and Mary's Magnificat.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Psalm 150:6
Happy Independence!
